This Master’s degree, under the direction of Doctor of Law, lawyer and mediator, Helena Soleto Muñoz along with renowned full professor Víctor Moreno Catena, offers a complete, comprehensive, interdisciplinary, up-to-date and practical curriculum. It is designed so that graduates can mediate with the highest level of professionalization, carry out satisfactory negotiation processes and function in the world of peaceful and out-of-court-conflict resolution, optimizing outside interests as well as one’s own interests.

Professor Soleto actively participates in research projects, talks, conferences, international competitions and European institutions. In 2007, she was a Visiting Scholar at the prestigious Harvard University Program on Negotiation, a pioneer program founded in 1983 and dedicated to the study and teaching of negotiation and conflict resolution. Her participation and that of other professionals in this degree program, ensures teaching of recognized prestige and quality.

During this week, there will be face-to-face role play activities, visits to the courts, visits to the office of the UC3M Intrajudicial Mediation Program, attending informative sessions, etc.

  • INTRAJUDICIAL

    OUR INTRAJUDICIAL MEDIATION PROGRAM

The Master in Mediation, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution offers the possibility of placements in the Intrajudicial Mediation Program.

    What is it?

The Carlos III University’s Mediation Program (PM UC3M) is a set of human and material resources devoted to the study, research, development, improvement, implementation, review and advocacy of the mediation as a suitable conflict resolution process.
Thus the PM UC3M is linked to the University’s Research Group Mediation, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution dedicated to developing the theory of, researching, reviewing and improving the Alternative Dispute Resolution.

    Intrajudicial Mediation and/or extrajudicial mediation?

The Carlos III University of Madrid’s Mediation Program was developed linked to the Courts (particularly, the Court of First Instance and Preliminary Investigations in Leganés and later in Getafe, Madrid).
However, from the beginning, the PM UC3M has offered also mediation to those individuals and entities that ask for help in the resolution of problems, so it also provides extrajudicial mediation.

    What is its mission?

The Program aims at providing an agile and effective mediation service, which responds quickly to the specific needs of the case, so, to this end, it is based in the courthouse and offers a continuous service to the court on Monday to Friday.

    Who are its members?

Its members are qualified and trained mediators, whose education and professional experience come from the legal and social spheres.

    Facilities

The mediation sessions are held at three locations:

    • PM UC3M office in the Leganés and Getafe Courts
    • PM UC3M office in the Leganés Social Services facilities
    • At the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

  • VIRTUAL
    • Inicio

The Master in Mediation, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution offers a complete program, ranging from the study of the conflict itself and the possibilities of resolving it, to the specific techniques and tools needed for the exercise of the different methods of dispute resolution in its different areas of application.

At a time like the present, where alternative or appropriate conflict resolution mechanisms are becoming increasingly important, it is necessary to offer a program of these characteristics, which is also backed by the extensive experience in this area of the team of professors and professionals who teach it. The Master offers a comprehensive theoretical and practical training in perfect harmony with the nature of the methods of conflict management studied.

The program is aimed at the in-depth training of experts, professionals and researchers interested in the field of conflict resolution and the different existing methods, paying special attention to mediation in its different fields of application and to collaborative negotiation as the basis for almost all of these mechanisms.

The VIRTUAL MODALITY of the Master in Mediation, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (previously called "b-Learning Modality") facilitates the development of the Master's Degree since it allows working in depth at a theoretical level, providing students with the necessary guidelines to develop their learning, while offering them the necessary flexibility to organize such learning in terms of time and space, allowing them to make the development of the Master's Degree compatible with other training, professional or personal activities.

The long experience of the teaching staff acquired in the years of teaching the blended learning modality allows, on the other hand, to ensure an adequate development of practical activities, both in the compulsory subjects and, where appropriate, in the optional "Internships", enhanced with synchronous virtual teaching.

As in the face-to-face mode of the Master in Mediation, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution , there are a series of compulsory subjects, common to all students, and two optional subjects, "Internships" and "Study analysis and methodology", aimed, respectively, at students who wish to focus their training on the practical application and professional practice of mediation and other ADR, and the second at those whose objective is the academic field and the in-depth study of these methods or the completion of a PhD on them. Likewise, a Master's Thesis is required to complete the corresponding studies.

      • Compulsory subjects (38 ECTS credits)
      • Elective subjects (10 ECTS credits)
      • Master's Thesis (12 ECTS credits)

The VIRTUAL MODALITY is developed through the virtual platform Aula Global. This platform is presented as the essential means of e-learning training. Through it, teaching materials are provided, the main analyses and studies carried out on the subject are shared, students deliver the assigned tasks, communication between students and teaching staff is direct, bidirectional and immediate, and student participation is encouraged and made possible in the generation of new ideas, questions, suggestions and proposals through discussion forums, consultations or chats between students and faculty.

Likewise, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid offers the university community a virtual meeting tool Blackboard Collaborate. It is a virtual room that enables the creation of a videoconferencing environment and is used in a variety of ways to attend classes, seminars or conferences in streaming, carry out group activities synchronously or tutoring with faculty.

The evaluation of each subject will be conducted entirely online, and will consist of a part of continuous evaluation (individual or group work on theoretical and practical aspects of mediation, negotiation or other methods of conflict resolution and evaluation of practical skills through practical exercises, role play, etc.) and a final paper or exam, depending on the subject, after each term (January and May-June respectively).

In the virtual modality, a voluntary on-site week may be developed at the end of the continuous training and before the defense of the Master's Thesis. During this week, there will be role play activities, visits to the courts, visits to the UC3M Intrajudicial Mediation Program office, attending informative sessions, etc.

The defense of the Master's Thesis will take place in June/July or September, either in person on campus or virtually, at the students' choice.
